Origins Of The Poetry Slam

The concept of poetry slam as we now know that it originated in the 1980s in Chicago, where a local poet and construction worker Marc Kelly Smith, feeling that they had lost their true passion for poetry, had an idea that he would bring poetry back to the people. He created a weekly poetry event-poetry slam, where everyone could participate and show their love towards poetry, because he knew that poetry heals pain and gives a pure smile. As we all know that poem gives us power to perform well, and through that emotions comes into the heart and conveys the message, what exactly wanted to give
So we were also inspired by this and also organised our very first event POETRY SLAM, virtually. Where we invite all the parts of Study Hall Educational Foundation (SHEF) as we include Study Hall School, The Study Hall College, Center for learning (CFL), Vidyasthali Kanar School and Prerna School etc. We were very excited about the event, the first event that the Culture Committee of The Study Hall College, online. Our main objective of organizing this event was to give chance to the students who have talent but they don’t know how to show their talent. The video submission deadline was from 25 December to 3 January 2021, and successfully we had received more than 30 videos from various schools and college. 7 poems were selected to represent different collectives of our diverse Foundation

12 January 2021- The Event
The Poetry Slam was held on 12 January 2021. It started through a Zoom call at 4:30 pm. The three anchors from The Study Hall College were: Aman Rathore (BA-JMC), Kirti Gupta (BA-JMC) and Suman Gautam (BBA). Chief guest of our program was Dr. Urvashi Sahni, the CEO and Founder of Study Hall Educational Foundation. Dr. Sahni, poet, philosopher and our founder and inspiration. She is the author of “Reaching for the Sky.
